Chicago’s next mayor is key to political fate of South Suburban Airport

Some believe that the impending change in occupants of the governor’s mansion in Springfield bodes well for prospects of building the South Suburban Airport.

Outgoing Gov. Bruce Rauner, after all, was no fan of the project. His administration couldn’t pass a budget for three years. Passing a capital bill that would fund a new airport and other infrastructure needs was unlikely as the Bulls or Blackhawks winning a championship any time soon.

But now the political winds are shifting as J.B. Pritzker prepares to take office.
