Why Does Illinois Want The South Suburban Airport?

•Jobs: Construction 8,000 to 11,000; Opening Day 15,000; 10 years 50,000

•Generates $170 million a year in new state taxes.

•$2.6 Billion annual economic impact.

•Strengthens economy in Chicago, Southland, Joliet, Kankakee, Bloomington, Champaign, Springfield, Downstate Illinois, etc.

The Chicago Southland Economic Development Corporation (CSEDC) will collect all messages supporting the SSA to urge Chicago, Cook County, and state officials to release the funds for SSA.

Here is a recommended message draft:

As a constituent, I urge you to work with Chicago, Cook County, and state officials to release the funds for the South Suburban airport. Many parts of Chicago's South Side and South Suburbs lack access to fast, frequent air cargo service. Far too many Southland neighborhoods suffer from decades of disinvestment resulting from structural discrimination and lack of air traffic capacity. Construction of the South Suburban airport could be a big step forward.

The region has come too far with this plan for it to fall apart at this stage. Please be part of the solution and urge everyone to come to the table to reach an agreement.
